ST5000DM000 possible Media Cache Issue

February 16th, 2024, 13:46

I have a DR with a drive that seems to be getting hung up on many InitiateMarkPendingReallocateRequest's per the terminal. We do not have any equipment that will bypass the terminal lock so I can attempt to turn off the Media Cache, suggested by other users for similar issues. Is there a way to turn off the MediaCache in the FW dump and flash it back, or is there a way to get the FW unlocked?

Any other suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Send ROM so we can unlock it. If you can read and write it. But i rather make some changes in module 93 than turn off MC. If you can't read/write ROM - send it to someone else.

Thank you for your assistance.

Attached is the firmware from the drive.

Regarding the module 93, what changes would you suggest?

On second thought i need to ask if you have any tool except terminal to send handshake when you get unlocked ROM, edit modules. If not, i wouldn't touch the drive and outsource it to someone who have tools and knowlege how to work with those drives.

Probably not. I am not sure what tool would be able to do any of that, except the tools that also perform the decryption of the FW, which I do not have available.

If there is a tool I can get software wise, then it is an option. If it requires more hardware, then not an option, and I will return the drive to the customer.

No software tool can help you. You need a hardware terminal do do the handshake.

And btw. to turn off media cache is not the way to do the job.
