HDD Low Level Format Tool

February 25th, 2024, 10:47

Hello!

When using the HDD Low Level Format Tool, I have been able to notice the following:

Just after finishing the low level format to some HDDs, the progressing bar says 100% complete and it is in yellow colour (rather, a greenish yellow).

What I have just explained is happening to some HDDs only.

Because some other times, right after the low level format is finished, the progress bar is in green colour and it also says 100% complete.

What does the yellow colour mean?
And what about the green colour?

Are there any other different colours than the above which are shown right after finishing the low level format to an HDD?

And what is the meaning of such colours?

I hope someone knows the meaning of these colours.

After thinking well about it, my conclusion is that the green color means that everything is okay. And the yellow color means that there are some minor problems- But, what type of problems does it indicate?

I don't know about what mean the colors.

I suggest you doing your format with Victoria, you will get much more infos about the drive state, by looking at the chart and slow sectors.

If you want right testing your drive before reuse, do a full read with Victoria, this first step will "really" tell you the health of your drive. And then you do a full write.

As far as I know, HDDLLF is not doing anything special, it just write zero to the drive sectors, as Victoria do it.

Diybit, thank you for your suggestion.

And I also suggest using the old Victoria 4.47 Freeware (2013-02-20).

Because new versions have some ugly painting bug in chart, and I have also take some BSOD with them.
Use the new versions only if you need a block size of one sector, or drive not detected.

About HDDLLF colors you see, they are perhaps deducted from SMART analysis.
