Hello, a few days ago I bought a 12TB hard drive on Amazon, as seen in the image. (HD.jpg)

My problem is that the disk turns on (you can hear it spinning without strange noises) and is recognized by the BIOS of my PC, but when Windows starts, it does not recognize it. I tried to boot with linux ubuntu, and hard drive error messages appear, as seen in the attached file. (logs.txt search for "ata3")
What do you think could be happening?

Mi Pc is a Lenovo ThinkCentre M720s with Windows 11.

I hope you can help me.
Thank you!

The drive appears to be faulty. It is unable to execute ATA commands and is identifying itself via the information in its ROM.

I suspect that the drive has been refurbished. It is reporting a diminished capacity of 23437770752 sectors. The full IDEMA capacity of a 12TB drive is 23442069168 sectors. That's a difference of 4298416 sectors or 2.2GB.

Hello, thank you for your response, the disk is indeed refurbished, my question is if it is possible to fix it in some way.

There is no support in the pro tools for this model, so DIY would not be feasible, AFAIK. To me, it looks like the refurbisher hid about 2.2GB of defects, but maybe there is a less pessimistic explanation for the reduced capacity.

Sorry, this is wrong.

The IDEMA standard has been superseded by SFF-8447.

SFF-8447, Specification for LBA Count for Disk Drives, Rev 0.5 May 14, 2015:

https://members.snia.org/document/dl/25903

Drives with advertised capacities that are less than 8TB still follow the IDEMA standard. However, those with capacities greater than or equal to 8TB are now subject to a revised formula. A 12TB drive has 23437770752 sectors.
