HDDs have mechanical parts, motor, lubricant I have many 2.5" and 5.25" HDDs stored, how many times a year is it necessary to energize all these drivers for all the mechanics to operate and avoid failures and locks of the mechanics, lubricant and motor?
HDDs 2.5 and 5.25 use flash memory to hold the firmware, how many years can this flash store the firmware files?

Oil change every 20,000 km or 2 years

Some famous academic papers written on the subject including a famous one by google but written in 2007 its out of date compared to the cheap junk hard drives of today

I use WD40 about every 6 months.
I backup the firmware to keep it safe and then I write it back to the drive when I plan to use it.
This way I don't have to worry about the firmware being lost.
