24 Drive Case with Individual Drive Power

April 28th, 2025, 2:22

People,

I haven't found anything but is it possible to have an external case to a Linux PC that has, say, 24 SATA drives in it - but where each drive can be individually powered on or off - I guess in much the same way as hot-swapping in some drive bays?

If such a device does not already exist commercially, could it be actually constructed? - what would be involved?

Thanks,
Phil.

Do you mean something like this?

or actually a 24 version of this I guess. https://www.amazon.com.au/selector-Switch-Control-Desktop-Computer/dp/B09G37TLL4

you could design something bespoke with a single input power, 24 output ports and a 24 rotary selector if you made sure the selector was rated for power. shouldn't be too hard a circuit to design, just a bit fiddly
