Hi guys,
I've seen references toshiba sheets about these two series. About hardware, rotational speed are different (respectively 7200 rpm the first and 5940 / 5700 rpm).
I was wondering if their headsets are cross comptible, and I would like to try this on a couple of these hdd (aca300 aba300)

So just to share opinion and experience, this is my question:
Has allready someone of you tryied if C.C. is possible among their headsets?
Thank you in advance for advices and opinions

I've heard that people have been able to use 7200RPM WD heads in 5400RPM WD drives and vice versa. Whilst I have no experience in head swaps, I would think that a head that was designed to fly at a particular height in a 7200RPM drive would fly lower in a 5400RPM drive, and vice versa.

the tangential velocity difference between ID and OD is far more than between 5400 and 7200. And a lot of heads are interchangeable and even more if you know how to trick the fw.

A 5400RPM head will fly lower than a 7200RPM head at the same physical location, would it not? So, for a particular head, the lowest fly height at 5400 RPM will be lower than the lowest fly height at 7200 RPM.

Frank ,
if heads are compatible then fw will adjust fly height wont it ? . in a 5400 rpm it will be different and in 7200 it will be different ,So FW will do this adjustment not the physical HSA ?

there can be slight differences. sliders look the same, but who bothered measuring spring force yet? Anyway, they usually work for recovery, however, HGST is picky about preamp type too, so that may be another culprit to work around...

tried to swap heads between families? like F9, G9, H9?
heads are basically the same but FW fails on preamp id...
can be tricked btw, but still...
well, right, other brands might be picky too, in that sense :)

FYI: I have used 5K1000-XXX donor heads in 7K1000-XXX series 2.5" HGST drives many times without issues.
