Hi,

Recently I got an WD3200BUDT drive (all I can see due to some random jumper (?) sticker covering up the sn) in a lot of untested stuff. Plugged it in and was greeted with 0MB of space in BIOS. Under w7 it is visible but diskmgmt says no partition on it (even unallocated) and I can't enable it.

On some posts it mentions that it's a symptom of being locked. I have also read that these drives (based on DIABLO 3D or whatever they were called) were common for failing heads.

Now I am confused as whether it is the heads or some sort of a lock. My HP which always asks for password on a locked drive just ignores it.
Anybody here that could give me an insight on this?

I can read the SMART data fine using MHDD but can't scan it due to:
"This drive does not support LBA mode or not detected"

Full model:
WD3200BUDT-62DPZY0

IMPORTANT NOTICE: This drive does not support LBA mode. MHDD will NOT work with this device.

Init drive: done

Do you want to set Native LBA adress? (y/N)
Done.

I hit y(es) and its just "Done."

HDAT2 detects this drive as "bios". I am not sure what is gonna happen if I'll screw around in there.

Is there any strange noise(s) coming from the drive except normal calibration?

Nope. It looks like its just locked by DCO.
Sadly I can't find a way to read module 02 and replace it with 82something. Do you have an idea?

If it locked, MHDD must shows full ID, capacity and FW version and report that drive is locked by ATA password with ABRT.
Which tools do you have ?

None of the expensive ones (wdmarvell, pc3k, mrt). Just the basic ones like victoria, mhdd, zu etc.
On polish forum they did unlock them without issues but the link to the soft is looong dead.

wondering why you think that drive is 'locked' whatever it means. Capacity is 0, which means it is likely a fw problem.

Most of the posts about the same drive and problem mention it being from decoders which had put a password lock on them. They work fine in the decoder but in a pc they show 0gb. Their attempts at removal of this lock were sucessful due to owning an piece of soft that is now unobtainiabum.

That's why.
Besides idk why but demo of wdmarvell crashes on xp now.

I suspect its from a decoder due to it pretty much having all the symptoms as the other posts.
In short I need to read module 02 and replace it with 802e or flash unlocked firmware on it. So yes, that is an FW problem.
Problem is demo wdmarvell crashes on both xp and w7 and there's no FW dumps for this drive too.
