My Toshiba MK6006GAH ZK01 1.8" 60GB drive failed - short inside the Marvell 88i6612-GAB1 CPU :(
Is PCB swap possible on these drives? Tried with PCB from the same model but ZL01 - the drive spins up but does not calibrate.

This shows that IC23 should be moved to the new PCB:
https://www.harddiskpcb.com/toshiba-mk6 ... -3393.html

But IC23 does not look like flash or EEPROM. It has Ricoh logo and "A01H" marking. Looks like a DC/DC controller, connected to the nearby coil and diode. Three of the 8 pins are 3.3V, two are GND, one is connected to diode.

Should I try to find a board from ZK01 drive? Or give up?

I think IC23 may be a R1230D001H converter, but I'm not confident.

This is a photo of the "D" version:

Can you show us a detailed photo of the three ICs near the motor controller? One is connected to the MCU.

In fact, there are only 2 ICs and neither seems to be a flash or EEPROM:
1. 5-pin one with marking "T2B". There is GND on two pins and 3.3V on one. One pin seems to be unused.
2. Bigger 6-pin with marking "2SD". There is no GND on any of the pins.

The 3rd one is not an IC. It's a white ceramic, marked "F" on one PCB and "T1" on the other one.

I guess the flash must be embedded in the MCU.

Can you dump the CPs and ROM from your donor?

The only machine where I can connect this drive is currently a Toshiba laptop.
I have to order an adapter from 50-pin interface to something sane and connect RX/TX pins there.

Now I have 1.8" to ATA44 adapter with added RX/TX pins. I get ">" prompt after pressing ENTER and also commands like "HP" or "DB" work.

But neither ToshibaReadROM.rar nor ToshibaReadROM2.rar works. They don't output anything. Will try to dump ROM manually.

That doesn't sound like the MCU is "shorted". :-?
