Hi guys. I've got a Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 9 (Calipso) 80GB HDD. It has 2 heads and there is a big groove on one of the surfaces. It causes a huge number of deffects in the P-list. Is it possible to switch off the respective head and to turn the HDD from 80GB to 40GB? Recently I did this trick with a 40GB D540-4K and everything is OK. Any sugestions how to proceed with my Calipso?...

I think you know why... D540X is a Quantum disk and one can change SPT for each head separatelly. It's not the case with Calipso.

Ok, but maybe the utility is not ( at this time ) prepared to let you do this, did you thought about this possiblity ?, maybe you will find your answer in PC3000 PCI version. Or maybe you will need some hardware help.

Hi,

If there is really a 'big groove', there is nothing to do, since the other side is gonna be grooved also sooner or later.
Did U open it and see that 'groove"?
