Formatting HGST HUC101812CS4204 --Help

Hello,

I bought 10 of these drives for 100$ Seemed like a great deal

However after 2-3 days of painful formating/reformating I have gotten no further.

The drives have all been converted to the 512 sector size with sg_format and combinations thereof.
WCE has been set to equal 1.

and yet they still misbehave, writing the first couple mb with dd fails "dd: fdatasync failed for '/dev/sdc': Input/output error"

Another symptom of whatever problem this is, is that have never seen the read write speed get above 50MB/s when i would expect at least 3gb/s.

when properly initialized all drives show up in lsblk at their full size. Well, reads 1.1tb when they are 1.2tb but imagine thats just a rounding issue.

Some probably important details of my system:
- Using this backplane - Intel 8-Bay PCIe SAS/SATA Backplane Board P/N: H88386-252
- LSI card - Inspur LSI 9300-8i

Im not entirely sure what logs/ diagnostics are helpful here so please let me know.

Thank you
-Arthur
