Pc3000- isa /pci - hrt 2.1 wich one ?

Hello ,

i have started a DR of my own ,
Is pc3000 or hrt essential at the beginning ?

i wonder about that cause i know that this hardware have
special features to handle corrupted/bad drives
can it help avoid clean room?

Excluding external electronics (pcb) and connections,
a faulty drive could be repaired either :
In a clean-room (sometimes done with smoke in a room )
or
by programmatical methods like the apps you mention and of course
others like MHDD

The programs you mention cannot replace the work which must
be done in a clean room.

btw. I hear much brilliant work has been done in a "dirty" room

using MHDD to "sweep" the dirt off the platter !

I have used a "Class 100" dirty room in the past just use a hoover and a scaple to scrape the dirt off LMAO

Use a Dyson cyclone , they have lots of suck and never lose power ROLMAO sometimes even suck the heads off the platter LOL very good for head swap

If the drive has a physical problem, you will need to open it and fix it. PC3000 and HRT do not fix mechanically broken drives. They fix firmware.

In some extent, you are right about doing less clean room work once you have pc3000. When the drive clicks or is not detected by bios, it's not necessary a mechanical problem and sometimes can be fixed with pc3000 or hrt, so if this is what you were wondering about, then you are right.

i know what a clean room 100 is , but this is fu****ing expensive

and i suppose not everybody can afford it?

using a hoover is great .... but not enough....))

Yes. You can keep a drive opened for 10-20 seconds if you don't touch anything inside. For a longer time you need a clean room. If there is some small amount of dust inside the drive run MHDD command cx for 20-30 min, followed by full scan of the drive (2-3 times), scan with write erase and finally scan with remap. Hello,

If I told U something now, U would probably damage the drive U want to recover forever.
First try to open some drives U don't need take out the heads, put them back and see if it is still working.
Briefly: learn, have experience.
U can clean things with acetone if got dirty.

I think that acetone is not the best thing to use in this situation, anyway .....
I think that the best thing to deal with disks is - look for some docs about how to clean magnetic heads, also I think that in UK has some websites that has infos about....
Also , small tip ..... VCR magmetic heads - how can I clean then ? or how people clean then .... what they use to clean then .....

There are situations - when the preamp burns out and smoke dispenses to the surface of disks- when one has to clean it before using working heads, otherwise they may got damaged too. In this case I use acetone to clean the surfaces of disks. It is pretty safe to remove a piece of dust from the surface as well.
But if U have other ideas, I am open to hear

Acetone is a solvent and there is a good chance that when you use it to clean the surface, you will also clean the surface's lubricant. And maybe something else...

About the heads, I really don't know if it is OK. But I do not understand either why cleaning the heads. Head/surface contacts happen occasionally, and are not supposed to cause lubricant accumulation in the head. The lubricant itself is planned to not interfere with head function.

If you need to clean a head, that's because something really bad happened at head/surface contact. So bad that a dirty head won't be your worst problem...

And how do you apply the acetone? With cotton? Textile? It will leave remainders.

That's why all this story about using acetone sounds damn weird and dangerous to me. But... maybe I'm totally wrong and in that case I would like to hear from your experiences.

I have not much experience with VCR, because I don't even have one. However I remember seeing cleaning tapes, which used an abrasive strip.

I've seen a long time ago a cleaning tape for audio tape. You would need to put a few drops of a specific solvent into the abrasive strip before using it. But you would also need to wait a few minutes before putting the cassette, or the solvent remainders in the head would damage the plastic strip.

Heads should NEVER be cleaned with ANY liquid.
You need a brush. Tiny soft brush made from squirrel's tail. (Don't kill any squirrels though . You can buy these brushes.
