What to do when SCAN + erase delays + remap "doesn't wo

Hi,

first of: thanks Dmitry for MHDD! Awesome job dude :) Too bad all these drive manufacturers SUCK and don't hire real engineers to do their software and even hardware!

second: I have this laptop w/ a Hitachi DK23BA-10 (10GB) drive. When I got the laptop the drive was DYING (stopping every sector) and couldn't install or run anything off of it! Scanned it with MHDD and it had red everywhere. Then I tried "erase delays" and then I tried "remap". This worked for the first 1.5gb or so. I was able to install an OS and have it run OK, no slow downs or anything. But when I try to make a second partition, past 1.5gb I get timeouts and crap. Run MHDD and I see it giving warnings and unreadable sectors. So I do the whole "erase delays" and "remap" again, but it never fixes it. It always has the same problems in the same places.

Now, I don't know that much, but I have a hunch that maybe the G-list is full somehow? and that's why it won't add any more of these problem areas in there?

So my real questions:

1) what could be wrong? (why doesn't remapping work)
2) if it's the G-list issue, is there a way to test or find out?
3) does any tool (that doesn't cost a million $$$, I'm just a student) allow me to move sectors from the G-list to the P-list ? (could that be full too?)

I'd appreciate any info/insight/help into this matter, because this is my first laptop and I can't even use it! :(

thanks

forgot to add: I did "erase" first (also fast erase), then scan+erase delays, and then scan+remap

BTW, I read on the Forum that some older version of MHDD (2.9?) can show the G-list. Can someone tell me how this is done?

thanks

I think your drive is almost dead... Dead heads. Nothing you can do.
