 Post subject: bad IBM harddrive?

i have an IBM harddisk .the modle is:ic35L040AVER07-O ;41.0GB.
it is very slow when BIOS detects the ide drives.when i run the MHDD to repair it ,there are some quenstions.
when i run command "erase,rhpa F4",it'll have some errors,the error message is:
init drive:[reset]
!error:drive not responding or operation canceled
[recall]
!error:drive not responding or operation canceled
then others are normal.
why?
