I have maxtor D540X-5X, 40GB. it's detected in BIOS. when I try using MHDD to scan for bad sector. it came around 20 UNC and have some green and red block. then I try to use "erase". it working good. but when it finished, it start to knocking sound hard but just for a while. then I try to use "scan". everything become "abort" ("!" sign) and start to knocking head again, this time very hard and long. Why this happen ??? it there something wrong i'm doing ?
since then my harddisk cannot be detected anymore, either in BIOS and in MHDD ???
I don't know what wrong ?? can anybody help me ??? Is there any chance MHDD has broke my hdd ??? now i cannot use my harddisk anymore.

p.s. I also try to using pc3k to repair it, but failed (not detected also)

thanks..

hi tony

i am not an expert in maxtor, but it looks from others posts
that this drives are fu**ing bad.... they have a lot of problem with firmware and mechanics
dont think mhdd caused this problem i have used mhdd
on many drives and it never caused any problem.

sometimes things happen to hdds and they are a mystery...
