WD1000BB-00CCB0 - THE BASTARD CAN'T DETECT IN BIOS:(:(:(

Hello,

I have strange problem with this drive. This HDD had worked OK until the PCB has been burned. I change the PCB for 100% good one - the drive starting spins up, I can hear, that heads are going down normally and everything sounds OK, but the drive cannot detect in BIOS - there is waiting, waiting and finally - nothing found :cry:

I tried on 2 computers, jumpers are OK etc.

Is there any idea to resolve this problem? I don't care about data, just only for HDD (at least it is good 100GB space...)

You need to seek help from data recovery company.
The drive doesn't work because of the difference in ROM on the old PCB and the new one. Ever though they look the same, they are not the same.
You would need PC3000 to get this problem solved.

He could change the ROM if it hasn't been burned on the original PCB for example...

yes you are right , changing the rom is a good solution

but one must be carefull and soldering qualified to do it correct.

i suggest using hot air solution to remove the rom from the old pcb and of course also to remove the rom from the new pcb.
dont use a regular hot gun!!! it will blow away the components from the pcb!!

i dont own a hot air station yet, but soon will buy one

if you can get "HAKKO" they are not very expensive and good hot air
solutions. i used to work with them in smt pcb repairs so they are good.

Thank you very much all of you for hints. I already changed PCB in many WD and it always worked, so it is a little surprise for me. I know, that WD with Marvell CPU need to swap their eeprom first, but i didn't know that MDL 00CCB0 could have diffrent ROM. So I'm going to buy some special tools to try this.
