ST2000VM003 - Currupt ROM

February 21st, 2025, 2:22

Hello,
I think this can happen once in a while due to some not so very good semiconductor .This HDD came in for data recovery Recovery and when i connected the same to terminal it seemed like bad rom ,I took the rom out and soldered it to a 150mil to dip adapter and read in two different programmers ,The Elnec Beeprog+ and The Python Chipprog 40 .Both the ROM Codes are attached to this post might be if critical modules are ok and have proper checksum we can extract those and use all the other code of identical rom and do something in this case please .

PS : Kindly download both attachments and rename to .bin from .zip its not a zip file

I can't see an obvious problem. What do you see in terminal?

The two dumps are identical, except that one is 0x300 bytes longer than the other.

Well,
0x300 yes because one programmer does also read security section ,That needs to be truncated . Also if you see around 75% section ++ Code the 0xFF are all also having some other code that litters the 0xFF i suppose .Can you please check with your tool the modules and thier checksums please

All seems OK with F3RomExplorer. That's better than anything I have.

I notice that PC3K has a feature which clears the CE-log. I don't know if that is worth trying.

BTW, did this drive come out of a DVR?
