Hi,
Right. I'm a beginner, so please go easy on me...
I have run a MHDD scan and found a red cross or UNC whatever that stands for. The FAQS tell me to do this:
Q10: How can I fix delays on my HDD (red and brown blocks)?
A: Use erase, then scan+erase waits, then scan+remap.
...but I believe I need to backup the data before doing this. That correct? If so, I have a problem. I can't get the computer to boot into Windows, even from CD, when the damaged HD is connected. If it is the only HD in the system then Boot Up just cycles through the blue BIOS screen. If the HD is a second HD in an otherwise working system, the system hangs with a black screen shortly after seeing the WinXP logo.
Is there a way I can back up my files without entering Windows? Or, could I just run the scan + remap in MHDD? Or, would that last effort not help me?
Thanks for any help,
Clive

Maybe it would be better to image the drive first, using any software (Norton Ghost, CopyR.DMA, or any other) and then maybe you can copy the data first to another healthy drive. Once you are sure that the data are intact, you can repair the drive without hesitation.

Location: In ur HDD !
Scan+Remap would not harm ur data in any way go ahead do it but if the cd is not booting there must be problem with the partition table or there may be bad sectors in the start of the hdd chk the problem .
