After power off and not using the laptop a while it says on boot it wants a password. I figured out the problem is in HDD. I pointed up the model of it, can anyone help me ?

Did you set the password and forget it?
Did someone else previously set a password?
Was a password never set?
What type of Laptop is it?

Unless you know the password, only PC3000 can help. I think.

Easy to fix with PC3000, done it many times.

In fact the PC is belonging to friend of mine, and he say so. I dont know if somebody didnt set the pass... However we dont know it and we didnt set it by any means. I dont have PC3000... I was thinking of some kinda master pass, however we dont have much important data on the HDD, is it possible to remove the pass by low-level formatting?

Low level format, will not help you!

Laptop brand, not Hard drive brand!
Dell, HP, Acer, ect..

Model of laptop is DELL INSPIRON 2500. Low level didnt help...

If it has factory default password set, and the laptop is registered to your friend, then dell can provide him with this password. Dell has their own default HD passwords, which are different from Hitachi.

If you know the use password for the laptop, then you should be able to disable the hdd password in the BIOS of the laptop.

Just go into the BIOS, and set HDD security to disable, it will then prompt you for user password. HDD will then unlock.

If you don't know the user password, then only PC3000 will help.

There is NO software solution for this, on this model, as any ATMR model, even with PC3000 you have to attach a special probe to test points on the PCB while running the unlock command to remove the PW. This does not work properly on most dodgy PC3000 kits.

So, in summary if you don't have PC3000 PCI, then you are wasting your time.

AFF-repair station via the web will unlock some models of drives with a security erase function, but NOT ATMR.

Dell can provide pass , but the service is PAID !!!!!
And the price for Bulgaria (where I am) is ~ $60- almost the price of new HDD... What to say...about DELL
