thanks for reply i have found out there is no safemode for this drive but if u leave the drive for 30 to 60 sec the drive it self reports readiness .

hi Rameez, i have maxtor D540X-4K 80G i think this drive is transitional drive between Quantum AS and Maxtor.

Model is D540X-4K, P/N: MX4K080H4

Drive becomes ready like you said after 20-30 seconds, then when trying to access data : error while reading drive's ID

I have no clue how to write firmware to this drive. Anyone?

I have the same problem its firmware is currupt . Find an appropriate LDR for the drive when the drive becomes ready load LDR and the check modules , and rewrite the bad ones .

Yes, only way is load LDR and rewrite only the bad ones.
