March 8th, 2007, 6:53

Hi folk

I have purchase about two month ago a HD SATA 500Gb MAXTOR mod. MAXLINE 7H500F0. Until two day ago the hard disk worked perfectly. For inexpicable reasons, after a reboot of windows xp, the hard disk is not recognized by bios. The strange thing is that after five or six reboot machine the bois find the hard disk but with name " Maxtor Grizzly" but the hard disk isn't bootable. I supposed that the firmware is corrupted and I
pray you to send me informations for upgrade the firmware of my hard disk or resolve my problem because into hard disk there are many important
(very important) data. :( :(
Thanks a lot.

p.s. The data on the label of my hard disk are:

S.N.: H80W632H
TLA: 7H500F008A5RA
Mfg date:28MAR2006

Probably you have a firmware problem.
If data is important send it to a data recovery company.

PC3000 does not support this disk, so you need to send it to advanced data recovery company
For example : http://services.seagate.com

Doesn't exist a way to repair the firmware? :( :(

On which controller did you try the update?
I had lots of "fun" updating my Maxtor Sabre (not Grizzly). You can read my story here:

What disk controller do you have? Silicon Image? nForce? Intel?

uhm.. :? my motherboard is ASUS P4P800 se. Can you see a controller here? http://www.asus.com/products4.aspx?mode ... 2=12&l3=31

But do you know why appears those message during firmware upgrade?

March 9th, 2007, 7:42

It has got the Intel ICH5R controller.
I had this message, too. Was shown because the dload utility couldn't talk correctly to the controller. You should have the maxtor drive connected as the only drive. And read the instructions Maxtor sent you carefully.

During the firmware upgrade only a sata drive is connected...and what instructons do you say?

March 9th, 2007, 13:14

up... :(

March 9th, 2007, 13:52

No way, seriously.
There are no tools on the market for this family at the moment. Only in-house custom-built solutions in Actionfront and maybe Ontrack :)

But obviously Maxtor are shipping their utility dload v2.034 with this firmware update (according to wizard85). So what would be the point in shipping that utility if it doesn't work?
