Hello!

I have a strange problem with my own disk (WD3200JB-00KFA0)
System (windows XP) starts without any problem, however sometimes there are some strange moments (sometimes few minutes after computer start, sometimes few hours after start, sometimes they do not appear at all) when hard disk knocks one time, and then computer hangs up. In such cases, after computer reset disk is usually not seen by BIOS, but when I turn off, and then on the computer it can be seen without any problems.

Situations like described above do not happen very often. Sometimes computer works even few days without any problem. But sometimes there can be heard this strange "knock" and situation like above appears :(

I checked the disk with "Western Digital Data Lifeguard" program and
"Quick test" failed. It returned a error code:

06-Quick Test on drive 2 did not complete! Status code = 07 (Failed read test element), Failure Checkpoint = 65 (Error Log Test) SMART self-test did not complete on drive 2!

Do You know what is going on?

SMART seems to be OK:

Current Worst ThresholdData Status
(01) Raw Read Error Rate 200 200 51 4 Ok
(03) Spin Up Time 209 182 21 4508 Ok
(04) Start/Stop Count 99 99 0 1606 Ok
(05) Reallocated Sector Count 200 200 140 0 Ok
(07) Seek Error Rate 200 200 51 0 Ok
(09) Power On Hours Count 98 98 0 2009 Ok
(0A) Spin Retry Count 100 100 51 0 Ok
(0B) Calibration Retry Count 100 100 51 0 Ok
(0C) Power Cycle Count 99 99 0 1594 Ok
(C2) Temperature 121 102 0 29 Ok
(C4) Reallocated Event Count 200 200 0 0 Ok
(C5) Current Pending Sector 200 200 0 2 Ok
(C6) Offline Uncorrectable 200 200 0 1 Ok
(C7) Ultra DMA CRC Error Count 200 200 0 0 Ok
(C8) Write Error Rate 200 200 51 0 Ok
Power On Time : 2009
Health Status : Ok

All the SA modules also seem to be OK (at least HDD Doctor for WD cannot see any problems)

Does anybody know what may ba a reason of this behaviour? And how to fix it?

I have just ordered a new one (this time Seagate not WD), but I'm really angry, because I have bought this one 4 months ago (the new one !!! ), and it crashed so soon :(
Of course I'm going to use the producer warranty, but:
1) Firstly I had to spend f**king money to buy new drive for backup.
2) I need to spend another money to send this faulty WD to manufacturer (I'm from Poland, and the nearest Western Digital factory is in Germany ;/ )
