Ok, lets hope someone can help me with this. I have a LinkStation Pro 250GL. the hard drive in these devices runs on XFS file format. recently i have tried to upgrade the hard drive from the 250gb to a 500gb and in the process, i wasnt paying attention to what i was doing and i ended up with 2 blank hard drives. can anyone provide me with help to restore my data on either hard drives? the original drive that was in there is currently unpartitioned but does have my data on it. the cloned drive does have active partitions but i formatted it with the linkstation box before checking my other drive to make sure it worked (huge mistake on my part) i need to get all this data off either drive (which ever is easier.) they are sata drives and i have one pc that has sata to access these drives. currently i have redhat enterprise installed. i have tried numerous file recovery software pieces but not one piece was able to recover all files. if i could repair the file system from linux, if anyone can help with commands (not very good with linux anything) thanks!

Hi,

I am sorry to say this but I think the only way left for you is
to recover your data in RAW mode. After formatting with
XFS you can not rebuild the filesystem and access your
file/folder structure anymore. This is the way XFS works .
However one good news is that, sice (almost) there is no
fragmentation in XFS, you may get 100% of your data
in RAW mode. Ofcourse without its original file name or folder structure.

To check if any chance have left for full recovery, you may try
UFS EXPLORER. Its a nice utility that can find and explore lost
XFS partitions.

Good luck my friend

Thats something that i have tried already. now just to clear up, i did not format this drive that way. it came formatted that way with the linkstation. the partition structure is damaged from the cloning process that i messed up.. ugh... now i have tried USF to recover files but it did not locate all the file formats on this drive. the files that it did recover were all intact and working, for the most part. there are file types on that drive that other software found but would not let me copy off the drive. i didnt know if there are any ways to attempt to recover anything from within linux. now another thing i want to do is once this drive is recovered, i want to repartiton the drive for the linkstation that i purchased to upgrade it. currently it is partitioned exactly like the original drive is with about 200gb of unpartitioned space that is basically going to waste. do you know of any programs that will allow me to do this without destroying the boot section of this drive. i guess what i want to do is merge the unpartitoned space to the rest of the space allocated for data storage.
