damaged MBR after virus scan/removal ?

July 16th, 2007, 17:49

Hi,

I know this question has been asked 1e5 times, but I don't really know
where to look. so quickly . . .

I've got a dtla 307020 that I ran a virus remover on Now I think the
MBR is messed up. I don't need the disk, but I'd like to get the data
off sooner rather than later.

questions:

AFAIK, the BIOS doesn't recognize the disc anymore; How can I be SURE
the bios isn't seeing the drive ? -maybe it's the MB on this (old
pc).

Actually I just ordered an external USB cabinet , based on the advice,
that the USB-computer interface is more tolerant than the IDE-computer
interface (I guess 'cause I"m not booting off it).

If the MBR is messed up, would the bios see it ?

Can PC software fix the MBR, if the BIOS isn't seeing the disc ?
If not, then I've got to get "some" hardware to see the disc.
What are my options?

Thanks,

SB

If the BIOS isn't seeing the drive, then no regular software solution with work :-(

Sounds like something else has gone wrong?

Where are you based?

Do you hear any sound from the drive? Is it spinning on power on? Any clicking?
Are you sure you didn't mess with jumpers?
I suggest you try USB solution first and see how it works.
