Hi All,

I have had some trouble with head swaps, i have heard people use folder paper, melted drinking staws and some other tools to keep the heads from touching when removing the head stack from the disk to put into another disk.

Can anybody supply a photo of the setup they use or how they stop the heads touching? I saw one photo of a guy using post-it notes on this forum but it was not a good example.

Does anybody have a photo (not a diagram) of how the heads are seperated so they do not touch? I have used paper and small pieces of cardboard but they end up falling out when the heads are moved ot bumped..they heads always touch and it's so frustrating. Any helpful information would be greatly apreciated.

P.S I have seen this web page which may be helpful to some of you - this shows paper, thick pieces in between the heads. Not sure if this is ideal or not - i would worry they would touch the platters.

I have also seen this similar post on this forum:

Thanks you.

Would you have a picture of how you would do this for a multi-platter drive?

Hi,
Yep I have also got those from SalvationData, but I haven't had the time to try them yet.
When I've done that I can post the result here.

I tried the paper and plastic wedge in the gap where the heads are, that's great! It stops the heads touching when you remove the heads, but how do you stop the heads touching as you put the heads back on the platters? I have moved the wedge/paper close and closer to the heads to stop them touchinig and it still touches. Any suggestions?

Use strips of plastic like you get from kid's toy packaging cut into long strips about 3" by 1/4". Fold in half without creasing so they spring , spin the platters and move the heads out towards the edge, slip the plastic under the arms near the heads so the plastic holds them apart, and off the disks, & remove the head stack.
