Hi guys , I have a WD 200BB-60CJA0 .with a M29f102BB (40 pin )rom chip
When the drive came in , it wouldn't spin and wouldn't allow computer to start
I replaced the pcb , then the drive would spin and click..
I moved the rom chip from the old pcb to the new pcb
and now the drive doesn't spin once again ..and computer takes
awhile to post

Can the rom chip prevent the drive from spinning , or did I just miss something?
I've examined the soldering job, and all the pins appear to be aligned
and soldered( damn those legs are close together ;) )

if it is the chip preventing the drive from spinning , what can I do ?

If you look up the datasheet of the ROM chip, you can find which pin is +V and which is GND. Is there a short between those two pins? Perhaps a bit safer to measure, when the drive is powered up, do you see the proper voltage across +V and GND?

Hi,

it is possible that this ROM chip is dead. And this way there is no program the new controller board could run, so it is not working...
This is my idea.
regards,
pepe

If you have PC3000 and your donor is also CJ you can try to swap original ROM back and play with the headmap.
Also, you can find any other Maverick board(CA for example) and try ROM from other CJ drives. Should work. :)
