IBM IC35L040AVER070

Hello everyone,

I read a lot interesting stuff that you guys wrote. So, I am gonna throw one atcha!

I have an IBM IC35L040AVER070, which is misbehaving. The FW test shows that the drive has over 4,000 defects in the P-List, which is standard. The G-List shows the "number of chain" defect to be 1899, which is maxed out. All modules appeared to be OK but yet I can't get the data off. Media seems to be ok, but unconfirmed.

- I saved all modules and cleared Glist to try and copy ... failed!!!
- I copied modules in the manufacturer's table: SRVM, PSHT & SDMT and wrote it to the user's area, and that also failed.
- HS did not work
- Swapping heads produced the same results.

Any suggestions guys?? gals ??

Which software did you used to access the system area?

Dmitry ... I used the PC3K complex from ACELAB ... but I think I did something which I shouldn't have done. I ran mhdd 2.9, using scan with remap function turned on prior to doing all the steps mentioned in the previous post. When using the scan, I noticed too many bad sectors, so I cancelled the test. Then I put the drive on the complex to work on it further. And those steps were:

I am also looking to purchase other software that will read/write to system area of hard disk drives... any suggestions?

Thanks for your quick response. I don't think that I'll be able to recover data from this drive. I am going to scan the entire drive and hide the defects. This will give me access to the drive(user data area), but I think by hiding the defects, user data is shifted and will not be usable. Thanks again for taking the time to answer my question.

I have one last question. Do you supply software(program) that will give me access to system(service) area of a hard drive?

Dmitry... it has been several months "later" and you haven't told us why you're no longer selling your product. Were you bought out by another company. How much did they pay you, huh?
