Greetings.

Today was a realy bad day for me.Part of the bad things happened is the fall of my Maxtor (Maxtor DiamondMax 10 300GB PATA133 [Model:6L300R0])(External Drive). The HDD fall from my bed down to floor. The result was my HDD to stop being recognised by WIN (Win XP Home SP2) and also when i plug him he make a strange noise (beeper + scratching).

Any clue what can i do now
1st To save my Data (about 240GB total 120-130Needed)
2nd To save my HDD and continue its use.

I asked in some local PC stores and they sayed that they are be able to check the disc and maybe change the headers. Is this possible and if yes am i going to face problems in future use of my HDD?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Wos,

1- Is it possible to save your data: Perhaps; it depends on how bad the heads will have touched the platters. This is a job for a professional data-recovery company
2- can you use the drive thereafter: No, impossible. This drive is for the garbage.

Best regards,

Dobre

When these Maxtors take a fall, often the bearings lock up and it's extremely difficult to turn the motor.

This is a job for a pro shop if you want your data back.

If it sings ( almost like it plays music), the platters are definitely stuck, I have about 10 of these drives that were dropped in portable enclosures, all have spindle seizure.
