Western Digital WD5000KS-00MNB0

Hey Guys
Anyone here in the USA had experience with this drive .
it was working then just stopped beinig recognised by bios
It doesn't ID
I sent it off to another DR company for repair and after a month
they couldn't get anything from drive ..
being that this is a fairly new 500 gig drive I have to assume
that it is firmware problems, and no-one has reversed it yet ..
the reason I beleive this , is that if it was just heads etc ,
my partner company would have repaired it in a few days.

My customer needs the data back.

Any help greatly appreciated

Thanks
Steve

Does it spin up?
Any clicking sound?
What company did you send it to?
This drive is supported by PC3000 UDMA. But it's fairly new tool and only 5 or 6 companies in US have it ;)

Then it has a problem with heads.
Did they open the drive and try to swap heads?

yes they opened the drive ..
logic tells me that if it was ONLY a head problem they would have been able to fix it .
They have PC3000 but not sure if they have UDMA
what I am really looking for is someone that recover this data
sure I would like to know what the problem is , but in all reality
Customer just needs Data .
I really don't want to name the company but they are listed as a customer of Deepstar ;)
I need a company that isn't gonna penalize me because another company opened the drive ( they are allowed by the drive manufacturers)
I have been pleased with their work in the past , as I send them work anytime I feel there is a need for clean room

I also have one of these disks, My disk reaches DSC and DRD but doesnt ID and capacity is 0. I have replaced PCB and disk stays BSY, after a ROM swap it behaves the same as before. It doesnt click at all.

I dont have much experience with these new WD disks.

Thanks

Steve,

You should ask that DR company if they tried to disable or swapped heads so you can understand what they did until now.
