hello everyone.

sotty for the long post i wanted to provide as much information as possible.
i am having some issues with a drive and am lost, if anyone can please provide me with some assistance it wil be greatly apprecaited as i dont know how to procceed.
a brief history.
i had a drive come in Hitachi travelstar IC25N030ATMR04-0 clicking and the pc 3000 could not do anything with the drive.
i sourced a relpacement with the exact model no, the stickers on the back of the original were 08K2811 and H69541, i found a donor with numbers 08K2771 and H69401A,

before doing anything else i plugged the dodor drive into the pc3000 and did a complete resource reservation of all the modules.

i then proceeded to move the platter from the faulty clicking original drive into the new donor drive, upon powering i had the same issue with clicking, i then moved the boards from the original drive to the new donor drive this time there was no clicking but Pc3000 cannot id the drive.

i decided to,launch the utility selected ATMR family and selected load from profile, pointed the path to my backed up resources and then got the report below.

i dont think i have an issue with a head anymore, possibly the board may not be 100% completely compataible as the original board uses a samsung chip on the board and the donor board uses a etrontech chip. so now i have the original platter and board installed into the donor casing and donor head.

i am thinking i may need to replace rom chip on board as my next process.
so i should end up with this setup
donor drive heads and board with rom chip from original board

i am truly lost as i am new to the pc3000 and still trying to learn it.

any help will be really appreciated.
thank you

ari

Hi,

I wouldn't touch the platter at all when there is a possible head problem. now your drive has a misaligned platter probably...

Hi Pepe

thank you for the answer,

i thought being a single platter it is safe to move from one drive to another as a single platter will have no alignment. am i wrong?

thank you

Ari

Hi,

Some single platter drives still need alignment, ATMR is one of them.

Hi,
Platter swap shall only be a last solution when you having bearing or motor failure.
When it comes to Pcb you can't use the donars, if you don't also move the NV-RAM.
But for a complete donar match you need: 08K2811 and H69541 + country.

thank you Pepe and Mr_Spokk for the replies.
so looking at the compatability as i dont have the exact codes
"the stickers on the back of the original were 08K2811 and H69541, i found a donor with numbers 08K2771 and H69401A,"
but the countires are the same can the head still be used?
when the alignment has been changed on a single platter of the ATMR is there still any possibility of getting the data back ?
the latest SA test i ran on the drive produced the below results

this is using the donor heads, original board and originall rom chip so only heads have been replaced. as there are corroupted modules most of the modules for copies 0,1 and F do i need to try and repair all copies to make the drive work or is it sufficent to make 1 copy work?
Thank you for your help

Hi,

I think u cannot repair copy 1 since it seems to be due the MHA incompatibility or H1 failure.
Test the donor heads back in the donor drive if it still works, if does, U need to find compatible MHA.

Thank you Pepe
it appears as though the MHA is not fully compataible due to the different numbers even though they are very close.
I guess part of the data recovery process is dependent on being able to obtain an exact match when component swaps are required.
can you rcommend any one who may sell them, i have tried a company in the UK but they have a match of MLc69555 which i guess is not going to be correct.
thanks
