Read the entire thread and all the posts before asking someone to 'read your password'.

Hi all,
Sure looks like some of you folks really know what you are doing. Thank you for sharing. I have a Western Digital Scorpio Blue SATA laptop drive from a Toshiba laptop that an "Ex" decided to try for some revenge.

So far, I have been able to create the boot USB thumb drive, get MHDD 4.5 up and running, configure the motherboard so that MHDD can find the drive. Create the read.md script, used HxD hexeditor to create the cs.bin file with the 32 bytes in it and a blank 21.bin and 22.bin.

I start MHDD, press (shift)F3. MHDD finds my drive. I type in the number (12 in my case). Type in EID and MHDD shows all the details and a HIGH security locked drive. I then enter .read and get the following:

LINE 1: RESET
LINE 2: WAITNBSY
LINE 3: REGS = $45 $0B $00 $44 $57 $A0 $80
LINE 4: WAITNBSY
LINE 5: REGS = $D6 $01 $BE $4F $C2 $A0 $B0
LINE 6: WAITNBSY
LINE 7: CHECKDRQ
LINE 8: SECTORSFROM = CS.BIN
ERROR: drive reports error

From what I have read on this thread, this means there is something wrong with my CS.BIN file. Is that correct?
I have attached my cs.bin (renamed bin.txt so it would post) file and perhaps someone may be able to tell me if I am on the right track and if so, would you be so kind as to nudge me in the right direction and/or post a working cs.bin file?

Thank you
Dancy

Dang, this tread seems to be dead, too bad, it was badly needed.

It's not dead - some problems are just not able to be solved remotely within the time that each of us choose to give here for free (we can't try things ourselves when the disk is elsewhere and communication / terminology issues sometimes make it impractical or just too darn long-winded to try to describe actions step by step).

Normal human nature means that criticising the community here by saying the thread is dead, isn't necessarily going to encourage people to answer, IMHO.

Dancy wrote:

If it's "badly needed" then you still have the choice of using the services of a DR company (typically after indemnifying them against legal action from the owner, if it later turns out that it's not actually your drive).

Dancy wrote:

I think you're looking in the correct direction (as you described in your first post) for your problem. The necessary info is clearly given in the first few pages of the thread - but I don't want to take the responsibility for "giving" you the answer, in case it turns out that you're not actually entitled to the information on that disk.

Hi Guys,

I've read through this forum a few times now, I understand what I need to do however I'm receiving the common error when trying to run my scripts... my cs.bin file clearly was created wrong. Can somone tell me how they created their cs.bin file? this information isn't what is used to read the password so it should be okay to post I hope, I have a WD3200BEVT which I need to unlock, i don't care about the data on there.... just need to unlock it.

Also I've tried zu.exe and when i run zu /p it just gives me an error message... any ideas?

I apologies for not understanding how to create a cs.bin, but I have but the effort in to read the forum and google turns out to not be my friend this time :(

Check out page 5, Morbious posted a full walkthrough with all needed downloads and instructons, it's what I used, and it worked like a charm, same model of drive too.
I just wanna say thanks to everyone who's been helping, especially for people like me who have to deal with this day in and day out.

But I need someone's help, Can someone help my with reading my 22.bin file?

@shredderofdabc:

If the password is not familiar to you, that tells us that it's not your drive, doesn't it?!

Edited to add: Actually, I can think of legitimate scenarios, but this is the whole problem with giving passwords to unknown people - we can't tell if the person who is asking, is entitled to have access to that drive... See the problem?
