Dears,

I have a problem with Maxtor N40P:
NAR61590
6E040L0510614
PC3000 detects the drive correctly but when I try to use Maxtor utility I have a message on the utility start window: "HDD Safe Mode detected" no matter pins are set up (master or slave or safe mode). When I try to click utility start button there is an error:
Initialization error
Content: Read roadmap
Content: Device error detected
and can't go further.
I tried to use universal utility and there was an error: (HDD Self Test):
04 (Disk Controller Error).

Could help me to understand how to recover my data?
I would be very appreciated for any help.

Best Regards,
Rafal

Did you try setting the drive in safe mode and starting up with a loader?

If you are successful, check the firmware. Clear SMART and G-List, after doing a backup of the drive's resources, and then fix firmware modules and regenerate modules as needed.

If you still cannot access the drive, then do a smart hot swap.

Jon

Hi rameez,

Just a question :

do you think the drive will start up as "nar61590" in safe mode ?

Rameez,

you are right! The code shows Nar6159Z instead of nar61590. I started safe mode with ldr loading and .. I went through utility. There is another question.
1. How can I restore data?
2. How can I restore ldr permanently? (after reset it is coming back to Nar6159z).
3. I see many reds into the modules table.
4. When I try to use sector edit I see wrong data (no 55aa in the first sector).

Thank you in advance for your great help.

Regards,
Rafal

you have to repair the modules first which are in reds by choosing
the "writing module" & " module group writing"
to make it permenantly detected. if not, it will still appeared nar6159z.

Dears,

I overcome the problem!
Once I reloaded ldr I chose "Restart using internal HDD SA"
and clicked Exit. After it I went to data extractor and got my data.

Thank you for your great cooperation.

After loading the loader the code changes to Nar61590 in safemode .
