Hi there,

I have Maxtor DiamondMax Plus 8 capacity 20GB (code: NAR61590, P/N:294931-001) which is detected (using Atola Repair Station) as Maxtor N40P with 41 GB capacity. Needless to say, not accessible and Atola could not repair it.

I quickly checked PCB, looks good and I believe mechanics are in good order and suspect firmware corruption. Furthermore, I suspect G-List is full as the owner said he could get it running for a while just by restarting the PC.

Questions:
- Would you agree that my assessment is probably right i.e. I'm looking at firmware corruption?

- I don't have PC3K or SalvationData. Is there a way to check firmware and G-List with other software tools (e.g. MHDD or similar - if yes, which ones?)

- If PC3K or SalvationData is a must have for this, has anyone tried SalvationData - please share your experiences as price is more acceptable and you can buy it by disk brand (as you need it).

- If you know of similar post on this (or other) forum could you please direct me there.

Many thanks

MN

Hi there,

I invested in HD Doctor for Maxtor from Salvation Data and it was a wonderful experience.

- The goods were shipped via DHL on the day of payment, arrived to Oz about a week later.

- Two support questions that I had (one sales and one tech) were answered promptly and to my satisfaction.

- There is detailed instruction (animated presentation) on SD web site for this particular type of failure, just follow it and you can't go wrong.

- The only time consuming part was finding replacement boot and module files - downloaded all firmware files from SD web site but couldn't find the exact match. By trial and error (trying similar spec models) I found the set that works, so no need to harass you good people for these files.

Overall, very easy and enjoyable exercise, investment well worth the money. Result: data fully recovered over two short evening sessions.
