I currently trying to repair some barracuda 7200.7 160GBytes Seagate HD; I'm using 3 different software to repair the HD.
1. KesenderII
2. Ninja Unlimited
3. HD Doctor for Seagate/Salvation DATA Technilogies

Out of the severl defective HD's i have I put them into KesenderII specifically on the TEST REPAIR mode
During this test the detected bad sectors will automatically reassing as good sectors
* SMART test to detect the initial ERROR status
*Random Seek (1000) times arm moves
*Verify ECC [Error Correction Code to all sectors]
*SMART test to evaluate the repaird HD
--Uncorrectable bad sectors will return ERROR (after three retry) during operation
--CAUTION this operation will partiallly DELETE HDD data during [write; read]

After this test I separates the HD's in different cathegories:
*Device not found
*ID Error
*Uncorrectable error
*command time over error
*of course Item finished (no errors)

After this stge Im putting the Defective HDs into the HD Doctor for Seagate
*Some of the ones in the "Device not found" cathegorie I have noticed that have some type of problem with the heads, (One of the features of this softawe is that you can depop the head(s) that you might think is causing the truble and eventhough the chunk of memory assigned to this particular head will be lost exmple (20GB per head) you will be able to use the remaining of the space.
I was reading the manual and some of the information seems somewhat unclear.
Also Im using some other options like FW repair which.
Im also having soe trubles with the HD that the software doesnt recognized, and it shows the drives as a "!".
Im searching and reading because there are many things I still need to learn.

If some1 has worked with this type of software before, or has aan idea of how apreach this problems please I would apreaicate any help.

thanks in advace.

I want to go one step at the time,
I want to be able to repair the HD even if the data is lost, or some data chunk has to be sacrificed.
Although it would be ideal to be able to preserve the data.

I get the impression the value of the drive is more important than the data. If your data is the least bit important, get the data first, then try to make the drive usable.

Well, could you please give us more info?
Step by step.
Normally, you only need to use one or two tools. You make the things more complicated.

Best Regards

Hi all and thanks for the replays

"I'm only interested in repairing the HD as for now"

To be s brief as possible I will try to explain two different problems Im having with two different HD. (Seagate Barracuda 7200.7.

the first one after being put on the the "test repair" on either the Ninja or Kesender II sofware came out as an UNCORRECTABLE ERROR.
I put it on the HD Doctor for Seagate in which I bcked up modulus such as [ALT, ATA, CERT, CERT TAB, INFO, PL, TS, APP, SECT, SMART] , then I did an scan ( here it tell you how many defect error it finds from LBA 0 to LBA 312581808)
when it finished it it had only found 2 defect errors, I Added those errors to the Plist, and I finished by a clear Plist, follow by a HDD Zero fill.
Since it said uncorrectable error there was a probability for physical problem to be found, so I went to the CHF Fw tab and there I put this code:
T>/2
2>H0
Head00
T>/2
2>H1
Head01
2>H2
Head02
2>H3
Head03
and there was no problems with the heads.
So I went back into the Ninja and put it through the "test repair" again. And again it came out as an uncorrectable error.
I went back one more time and scanned the HD on HD Doctor for Seagate and this time 988 Defect errors appeared. Again added those errors to the P list and finnaly cleared the P list one more time.
question? Is this normal for something like this to happen?
Parameters such as [p/n, firmware, s/n, LBA, model#], HDD info are found without problems.
ny one has nother suggestion of any other procedure that I can add?

Another problems I encountered with another HD was that the LBA number after the HD was recognized by the HD doctor for Seagate software was very small compared with the actul capacity of the HD. In other words out of 312581808 there were only 1116789.
Is there a way to actually increase that number? does that men that there is a physical defect on the HD that is causing this misreading?
IS there any way(s) that this can be fixed?

thanks in advance

Hi,

clearing Plist AFTER adding errors to it does not seem very reasonable...

Hi pepe

thanks for replaying...

You are right, this is probably an unnecessary step to do.
On the other hand, I have hundreds of HDs to work on, and Im relatively new to this whole "HD repair"

Thanks anyways for trying to help.
