Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi there,
I have a WD5000KS-60MNB0, motor starts, than there are three cliks (with approx. 3 sec interval) and the motor stops - that's it. PCB looks in good order and all signals that I could follow are there. Am I right to assume that a head and/or preamp are dead?
The only thing that's strange for me is that I've never had a failed drive that stops after three clicks only, all of them with similar symptoms tried at least five times.
Cheers

Well, It's typical head crash problem. I suggest you diagnose it with professional tools.
such as SalvationDATA tools.

hey!
noway this can't be coincidence. i have the same HDD and it also died 1st - 2nd of may.
also the same symptoms .. 3 clicks and a spindown/spinup .. 3 clicks. etc.
i've been googling around since then and fell over this page.
i am wondering if i can fix my HDD or if it's really dead and i can't recover nothing at all??
