I m confused about WD HDD.
Problem: The HDD motor is not spinning, touched at PCB, its being hot as usual. No detection in BIOS, wait long time, try to detect, but no detection.
Where may be the problem?
PCB is not burnt, I checked already. No available PCB to replace for checking purpose. No PC3K or SalvationTool.

In my sense- Motor/PCB/FW corruption. No clicking or unusal sound.

Model: WD300BB-32AUA1 (CAVIAR)
DATE: 30 MAR, 2001
DCM: HSBAEVFA

I HAVE ANOTHER HDD WITH... (CAVIAR)
MODEL: WD400BB-00JHA0
DATE: 20 AUG, 2004
DCM: DSBHNAJCH
I SAW THE PCB BUT NOT SAME SIZE.

Thank You

Hello,

This is interesting for me!
I have a WD300BB drive with not spinning problem too, with Flash curruption exactly.
But the pcb stay really cool for me with the broken flash!

This can be from different reason, but i suggest, try to find a maching PCB and try to exchange the flash.

Best Regards,
Janos

Have you checked the voltage at the motor connectors with a DVM? If you have power check the motor resistance. If no power is found then put the pcb into kernel mode and try to ID with mhdd. This would at least verify you have power to the processor. Leave the flash alone if your not familiar with soldering. If the data is important then seek professional help.

What is the procedure or rules to exchange a WD PCB?
What identification needs to be checked to match?

You need to check the internal configuration data. (missing/disabled heads, etc..)
Thats why you need professional help.

If you find the matching circuit, and exhange the flash, this can be safe too, but need to check the preamp first for short circuit, and need to do a good job on soldering. ;)

With respect, $400 is not unreasonable. ;-)
