Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi Group,
I have been fighting with this drive for a while now. It's the classic: spin up, click three times, spin down. I have tried everything. I can't get it to hotswap to access the SA. So I tried heads, then I thought the motor may not be up to speed, so I moved the platters to a donor motor and new heads. I tried a different( but close serial#) ROM. I tried a different PCB. Nothing fixes this problem.
Has anyone had these symptoms and actually fixed it enough to recover data?
Any comments are greatly appreciated.

Maybe a scratch right in sa? Also, rom not matching perfectly and z-axis alignment of heads? Assuming donor and everything else ok...

Thanks for the reply BlackST. I can't see whether there is a scratch or not. This may be the case. I have tried a couple of very closely matching ROMs. Also tried the headstack adjustment trick. I'm leaning towards an irreparable scratch

Western Digitals clicking and powering down. Seems to be a common problem for a lot of people!
Anyone got any information or tips on recovering these? How about info about manual alignment of the axis? Maybe a common factor could be the screw securing the heads in place is also the basis for alignment, is this a reason for head replacement failing?
