Maxtor Fireball 3 2F040L0 VAM51JJ0 READ PROBLEM

August 23rd, 2008, 13:01

Hi,

I have problem with this drive that I don't understand.

It can't read almost whole disk area (many bads), so it's seems that there is head problem?

But since there is only one head in this family I don't understand, why there is problem with reading of user area, but SA can be written or read without a problem!

Anyone has some idea what's wrong with it?

Regards

Unstable head or invalid adaptives (aging), or you have firmware issue. Try erasing the disk (MHDD , erase). Still bads ? Selfscan (if possible... these drives are nasty)... Still bads there or selfscan didn't work ? Use as paperweight, door lock, etc. :D
