Data recovery and disk repair questions and discussions related to old-fashioned SATA, SAS, SCSI, IDE, MFM hard drives - any type of storage device that has moving parts

Hi all,
as I thought, also this drive makes trouble. (I got the notebook with the HDD in for "check up").
It spins up, makes a strange seek noise - like real, white noise -, seems to park the heads and continues spinning. Drive can't be seen on IDE. Before I take also this drive to the clean room next week to check whether it has platter damage I'd like to hear your opinion on this failure.

Does the disk report DRD and DSC?

That would be the next I'd have checked, before the UPS guy was ringing the doorbell, delivering long awaited spare parts for long waiting customers. Hard disk is thereby scheduled for tomorrow. My guess would be:no.

Hi,
I havent't been in the clean room now, but I wonder whether it is normal for this type of drive to be completely absent on the IDE bus when initialization fails - neither the BIOS nor MHDD can't see anything at all.
