I want to know whether , discreet components of the hdd pcb are available on market? I want TVS diode / Resistors & transistors. I know microcontrollers & ROM's may not be available.
I would like to know manufacturer of these components.

"google"... Seems to be able to find almost anything. But doesn't work for custom parts or industrial secrets... For these, there's a lot of scrap from defective/dead disk. Wanna give a try contacting the manufacturers for custom parts? You'll be amazed...

Why is your time so precious? Are you so busy and great that you have to be nasty to new people. A forum should be a place were you can ask questions and hopfull get answers. From what I have seen from BlackST and "thatdellguy" with your posts, your time cant be that precious. You would be more helpful by not posting stupid comments and leaving this forum gain a bit more tangibility.

Forum is a place for interaction , sharing knowledge & for growth.
It seems not only from the posts that instead of this purpose they are more interested in there ego satisfaction. A real master is humble because he knows despite achieving knowledge & wisdom he has not reached to ultimate & there is someone of higher level .
If you have really done something they would have pointed out right way instead of making others inferior. Why are they wasting there time here? they would have become ceo of next ontrack or CBL.Since they are here just making fun of others everyone will understand there level & arrogance.
Instead of pointing out other peoples weakness , if you could help other person try to do that .That is human Nature. if you could not help then please keep quite. I am sure there are great engineers in this forum to help junior technicians.

Perhaps the answers were harsh, but they were accurate. The information is available, it just takes work. I can't speak for anyone else, but from my point of view you decided to see if someone else could do your work for you. These are not state secrets. You want to find a TVS? Find a part number off the part, and then get a datasheet. Find a large electronics supplier. Look through what they have, and find either the exact part, or something compatible.

Also, my time is VERY valuable to me. I don't owe anyone the slightest bit of help. Out of the goodness of my heart, I shared some of my time and knowledge with you. The polite thing to do would be to act grateful.

What do you expect? The truth is that people now don't want only info for free (spending no time at all) , now they want their job done . For free. A sort of reverse-mixed communism , privatize earnings and socialize losses. Who has to be ashamed ?

No, if you (like other people) are planning to build your database of answers and/or make revenue from it, you're totally wrong. Probably no one has still pointed out this but everyone knows. You won't be legitimated or rise the top-ten here or everywhere with some info collected on this forum or on the net. Everyone can do it. There's RSS feed for it, and plenty of search engines. Unfortunately they refer all to the same stupid useless videos on youtube, or the same pointless, useless discussions. I have seen many drives from customers that tried DIY with these videos.... maybe 1 out of 100 succeed, the others are lost for sure. Is this service ? It's like those "jackass" movies. It's the internet. It's democracy. It's widespread knowledge. NO . It's more revenue for drive vendors
About "ego battles" but with your posts you haven't solved any real issue here, only gave illusions. When someone comes here saying he has opened the drive, put it on the oven or in a freezer, tried everything up to a Black&Decker, what do you expect?
There are people here that contacted me via IM and we, online and peer to peer with the right tools at hand and proper knowledge, solved MANY issues. This is the difference between illusion and reality.
And notice that everytime I said "ASK A PRO" I said "ASK A PRO, NOT ME" and I have EVER asked the OP to say where he was located, in order to be contacted by OTHER pros here near him/her. This is help. I have ever recommended people that I know and I trust, just like if they were MY customers. This is honesty.
YOU , instead, have only highlighted your ability in repairing machinery, kit cars etc. (not HDDs anyhow) and your price cut-down policy and magnificated your point of view beating off the other ugly DR people, me first.
Obviously your "customers" were happy of you... you just spoiled the market. YOUR market. And this will bite you back (anyway you seem to be old so it probably won't hurt you for a long time, things are rapidly changing and you'll be cut off , everyone is useful NO ONE absolutely needed) . Or probably, let me say it, you are searching new ways of business/living and trying to find the info you need just because you have totally destructed your market, your "customers" are used to your "prices" so you can't ask no more, nothing more... you're not a hero if you asked 500$ a 20,000$ work.
I wish someone like you from China or emerging country with almost zero labour cost, same knowledge but with other expectations go to your customers or make a mass-mail doing YOUR "work" for even a fraction of the cost. What would you do then ?
Now you probably want to do some DR because it's a juicy market and you can't get no more revenue and probably no more help from other people in your field?

I can imagine. Your life is so incredibly interesting. Demeaning and insulting people really takes the drugery out of working and making money. Thats the way some people are. Unlike you though, I take satifaction out of working, helping other people, and making an honest buck. I have ruined nothing working as I work. I can never keep up with the demand for my time. You claim yours is a juicy market. Well my market is juicy too as is any market where you have customers by the balls. But I choose not to juice my customers. And I still live good. People stop believing in modern robin hoods because they get ripped off so often.

And yes, things are changing. The internet is waking people up and educating them. They are discovering what things around them really cost to produce and lowering their payment acordingly. People can afford much more now than they ever could before. And its partly because cheaper people like Mexicans are being hired. Employing them is not bad, its good. It drives the cost of producing down. So if my wages drop, I can still buy what I used to buy. When people are locked into control and protectionism, then prices sky rocket and people suffer as the greedy few get rich on the backs of the needy. Just like gas prices right now. We are all suffering because we let the Arabs corner the market on energy.

But mechanical hard drives are a dying technology. I will continue to back up my data so I dont get bit and if a lot of interesting info about them comes my way, so be it. If some questions remain unanswered, well the point will soon be moot as drives evolve into solid state storage.

For those that make their living on them, you are capable of working on something else, so sniveling about protectionism is falling on deaf ears.

So stop knocking the available info. Its good and getting better. But it will always be very delicate and tedious work, no matter what information is posted. Definitely not for those with shaky hands and poor attention to detail.

I had to kinda modify and erase some of the posts here and there... Guys please... I have better stuff to do...
