I have an IBM IC35L073UCDY10-0 ultra 320 scsi drive that suffered a horrible death due to a power surge. Apparently the power went out and came back on during the night, which somehow turned my computer on. Guess my surge protector isn't so great after all.
I was wondering if I can swap out the PCB to try to revive it. If I can, is there anything else I need to do like swap f/w chips? Any help would be appreciated. This drive is FULL of my music and I'd hate to try to re-rip all my CD's.

Try. Don't forget nvr. If doesn't work, re-rip. Good luck.

Welcome to the forum. Are you pretty good with an iron? You will need steady hands and attention to detail so you dont make things worse. Anything could be wrong but you start from the beginning. What is and isnt running, with a magnifier are there any cracks or burned spots, does anything get warm quickly? Also look on Ebay and see what is available in that same drive model. Since your not in a hurry, you can really do some reconacance and also search on the forum for answers to puzzling questions you may think of. Also check out youtube for videos. They can also be very insightfull and more are constantly being added.

Just music?

There are services that will rip CDs for you very inexpensively. Certainly for a lot less than what it will cost to recover this 73GB drive. Given choice, that's what I would do.

Surge protectors have a limited lifetime. They should be replaced at least every 2 years, and ideally after a major surge. The cost of the device doesn't matter much as far as its lifetime is concerned.

SCSI parts are expensive and more difficult to find that their ATA counterparts.

Does your surge protector have a lifetime guarantee.

Computer restart: This setting is in the pc bios, under power management settings, or similar. your bios is possibly set to restart the pc after power failure.
