I have a question to all the pros here :)

WHICH HARD DRIVES CAN BE RECOVERED IF DATA FROM THE ADAPTIVES ARE CORRUPTED ?

I know. But which hard drives ? :O)

Maybe easier to say which drives can't you recover data from without adaptives?

SCSI Seagates (and looks like 7200.11 too) are pain in the ass if adaptives are lost
Toshibas are difficult to recover w/o adaptives
Some Hitachies too

I can rebuild adaptives for most Maxtor, Samsungs and - in some case - a few seagates (still investigating) in order to READ data "decently". Toshiba are tough because of their structure. I had (yet) almost zero success in IBM/HITACHI and WD (still investigating). It's a long way, I think...

For what drives in specific do you need to rebuild adaptives?

Hi, In general how would one go about manually rebuilding the adaptives?
Would it be a case of recovering an original factory module from the SA and then calculating the adaptive information from there?

If the original facory module is corrupted then how do we fix it manually?
Do you take a copy from another good drive and clear the record then take the corrupted file and copy over any entries which are located in the record table as hex to make a good working module/file?

I'm interested to know how it might be done?

How are the checksums calculated?

each drive have unique adaptives. The target is to build/find adaptives that work.

Cool, thanks for the reply.

So in reality most recovery companies can recover adaptives. if WD is the hardest I will work on that first :O)
