I have a Toshiba USB 8GB that came in for data recovery. After taking it apart the whole board was shorted removed the controller the short is gone so the controller need to be replaced, do i need the exact model number controller for it to work? Also is there any firmware or data stored in the controller that need to be transferred from the damaged controller to the new one?

Have you also also checked the caps aren't shorted, you presumably moved them all intentionally to obtain better access to the controller. Yes you'll need the same controller. Odd there's no 6625 in fe or pc3Kflash online libs - have you tried chip off yet?

Swap controller is last resort. Better make chip-off and read nand, than assembly the data.

i checked all the caps and almost all of them were shorted except one, that's why I moved the caps so they are not connected hopping for the short to disappear but then i realised it's the controller which shorted the whole board and by removing it the short was gone.

No I haven't tried chip off yet i was thinking it's easier to order same controller and replace it and hen can have access to the data right?

I found exact model number on ebay.

Can I ask why swap controller is last resort? it looks easier to me t just swap the controller? also what tool do you recommend for cheap-off?

Easier is debateable and there's a real risk to the data in doing it. The theory is sound and it should work, but you have no way of actually knowing if any two controllers will behave exactly the same before allowing it to access to the nand chips.
