SanDisk Ultra SSD 120gb Freezing

January 31st, 2014, 16:24

Model: SDSSDH-120G-G25

No need for data just to fix it if possible!

The ssd drive boots a pc with a larger convention drive also installed.

The system locks up after booting to a Windows 7 desktop usually within a few minutes.

When I mount the drive in a test unit and boot from cd to Windows XP and run Victoria it will scan for up to 15%, sometimes more, sometimes less, then it freezes.

Can it be saved with an update from Sandisk or is it junk? Or maybe RMA?

Not an expert but from the info you gave it's a defect SSD ... If freezes at 15% it means : 1) One of the chip used for storage broke down and causes havoc in the SSD controller when scans that particular chip, 2) The controller of the SSD overheats and sents wrong voltages and signals all over the place, 3) At some point the power of your house got a bit over the maximum allowed and damaged the controller or the PSU isn't good and also damaged the controller. Either way if you have guarantee sent it directly to Sandisk or if you don't sent it on an expert, don't try extreme things you might find on google.

Definitely RMA it.

I updated the firmware and then I ran the same tests.

Yep, still junk. So its the bin or Rma for that one.
