Advice on camera modules

April 8th, 2014, 20:45

Hi guys,
Just after a bit of advice before I send some components off and waste a DR companies time.
I dropped a digital video camera and sent it off for repair. I was told it was an uneconomical repair but the technician said he could remove the memory modules for me to send away for DR.

He supplied me with 2 small boards, pictures of both sides of each board are following.
I hope the pics are clear enough.

Is data recoverable from these memory modules?
If so, any recomendations for a reputable company in Victoria Australia would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

Azin

Hi,
I believe so, could you please list the chip numbers on the second picture (or all if you feel energetic) as they are hard to make out and important.
I am in Adelaide and work with Flash, and have helped a number of people on here that have posted to me.
Welcome the chance to help you on this.
regards

If you can tell us the model number of the camera, I may be able to locate a service manual with circuit diagrams. That will tell us the pinout of the modules.

Thanks for the prompt reply guys,

Will post camera model and chip details when I arrive back home in a couple of days.

Here is the Level 2 section of the service manual for a likely looking camera:

http://www.exitequipment.com/files/doc/ ... 009.12.pdf
http://elektrotanya.com/sony_hdr-cx500_ ... nload.html

Here is the Level 3 section:

http://elektrotanya.com/sony_hdr-cx500_ ... nload.html

The "MM-083" card appears to have a standard 8-bit MMC interface with a 2.8V supply voltage. Its diagrams can be found in the Level 3 manual.

And for completeness ...

BTW, I have seen the business cards of these guys in a few Computer shops in Adelaide. Going on the website info, and anecdotals from a shop here, they seem ok, though no first hand experience : http://www.techneticsdata.com.au/
cheers

ISTM that the OP's case would be within your own capabilities.

Thanks Franc, I believe so, and would welcome the chance to work on this interesting case. The OP mentioned wanting a DR company in Vic, so I thought it only fair to mention and let him at least weigh up the options.

Still interested to know the chip numbers.

Thanks for being patient,

fzabkar, I don't know how but you nailed the camera model. HDR CX520.

HaQue, If you still need the numbers on the chips it might take another day, I'm going to need to source a magnifying glass or digital microscope. I'm more than happy to send them to you in SA if this is within your field.

Appreciate the input so far.

I searched for PDF documents containing "VC-575" (the number on the larger PCB).

There are a few people that really understand searching the interwebs. We lost Fravia a while ago to illness, but I think Franc has an equal talent for finding information.
