Samsung SSD MZ-MPA1280/000 power supply problem?

April 14th, 2016, 12:58

Hi Sirs,

I have this arrived in Lab. Pls see photo. Tested in PC3K 5V led in ON not green but RED. This should mean PS problem.

I'm not so used to work this SSD and I do not see any blown component. Can I ask someone some hints to test and repair to recover data? Without (possibly) dismounting chips.

Thanks in advance.

I don't know anything about your PC3K's 5V LED, but FWIW the SSD is rated for 3.3V.

I mean... I used Acelab PC3000 to test connecting to SATA port. I know that is 3,3v, is also written on the label, but usually I connect these SSD to sata using an adapter that gives 3,3v to them. It seems that 5V supply from SATA is over current (this means red light in pc3k). So the question is, what could be the problem that put 3,3V to go over current? Thanks

I would start by measuring the resistance between +5V and Ground at the input to the adapter, and between +3.3V and Ground at the output of the adapter. Then do the same thing with the adapter connected to the SSD.

Possible this one could be done with chip-off, the S3C29MAX01 that I presume is under the label hasn't, but a previous version of the controller, S3C29RB01-YK40 has been figured out.

don't know if the datasheet will help you investigate it: http://www.samsung.com/us/business/oem-solutions/pdfs/PM830_mSATA%20SSD_32_64_128_256GB_Spec_1.0.pdf .. I don't know any of the JuJu you guys do with hard disks and tools like PC3K!

According to the following guide, MZMPA128HMFU-00000 is based on the PM810 controller ...

http://www.samsung.com/us/business/oem- ... 11_web.pdf

... but the following guide says it uses the MAX controller:

http://www.datasheet.directory/datashee ... C-8GC6.pdf

I don't know what to make of this, though.

its the same thing, if you see MAX in the chip mark code, it is a PM810 based controller.

The photos aren't very good, but here are my guesses for the voltage test points.
