i/o error....i can see the files but cannot be opened ....

Ddrescue is decent free software. Careful not mixing drives up. Suggest practicing first.

Sounds like bad blocks.
DDI4 USB add on reads damaged USB sticks pretty good. That's assuming the controller is functional.
