Deleted files on Sandisk MicroSD

October 26th, 2020, 14:10

64GB Sandisk microsd that lived in an Xperia phone. Customer accidentally seems to have deleted most of her photos. I can see they have been deleted in r-studio and the contents is all 0s so 99.9% sure everything is gone forever however I'm sure I read on here somewhere recently that accessing memory directly through pads someone found that wiped data was still accessible on these? Maybe I'm just imagining it.

Zeros suggests data was TRIMMED (or SD equivalent for that). Initially this may just be an 'administrative' action while data is to be actually erased at a later stage. And if that is so, there's at least the theoretical chance data is still recoverable as long as drive is denied background garbage collection and such. That's how I understand this works.

Here's some tech info on the subject, microSD works very similar to eMMC.
