Hello,
I got this USB key that was bend, no power when I got it. I solder the 4 pads, now the lights is flashing and windows detect but says "not recognized".
Does the not recognized message confirm the 4 wires connections are ok (power should be.. so data - and data +)
Trying with another OS should not help ?
Also, must be IC ocsillator on this key, not a legacy one. So before going for chip-off, any recommandation ?

You need to look at the 4 connections and surrounding areas under a microscope. many times the tracks leading to the USB Pads are broken just before the pads and it will be visible under a microscope. Magnifying glass generally not enough magnification.

Thank you. so the fact that windows recognized doesn't mean DATA + and DATA - are connected. Thank you.

One of the data lines has a pullup resistor (check usb 2.0 specs) which is sufficient to make windows detect something is plugged in but it will fail to communicate with the device if the other data line is broken.
I am not sure this is the case, just a possibility

Download “chip genius” and run it, then plug in the USB.
Post the log here.

Thank you guys, it's sorted.
Looking at the tracks, one was broken near the pads and I could fix it easily, it's a pity I don't have a camera on my microscope to share for knowledge base... that will be my Christmas gift.
BTW, I could not see the pull-up resistor.
Case closed.

the pullup is built-in.
