M2 Emtec SSD Short?

June 24th, 2024, 4:39

Hi,

my SSD drive suddenly dead. I tryied to found some short on the components.

With a DM in diode mode. Red probe to GND I have a read of 0.390 in both sides of the component. And if I put the probes on both sides of the component I read 0.100 the same with inverting probes. This would be a short component?

Thanks.

Does anything happen if you shorten the test point and turn power on?

What makes you think there's a short on the drive? Contrary to what youtube would have you believe electrical faults aren't the prime cause of drives failing to respond it's usually degraded nand. As suggested try forcing safe mode and see what the drive reports as.

I tryied shorting test point, but nothing changed...

How exactly did you short-circuit the test pins?
How are you currently connecting the drive?
It would be best if you connected the drive and checked the work log icons (MHDD, Victoria).
Then something more could be said.

@spoontex, can you repeat those same measurements on the 200 ohms range of your meter? Can you also measure the resistance between ground and each of the two inductors?

BTW, I suspect that the component you have targeted is a chip inductor. It looks like your SSD passes the raw 3.3V supply, via a filter, to the NAND array. The tiny square IC nearby could be a load switch, probably for the NAND Vcc.

Can you measure the resistance between ground and each of V1 and V2? Can you also measure the resistances of each capacitor around the load switch?
