You pull the drive apart and look on the controller chip. The number would be AU6989 or something like that
You need the MP tools, along with burner and firmware files, and also must figure out how to use them. Other info you need is the NAND chip numbers and ID's.
Unless the pendrive is something pretty expensive or something, effort spent on this is, I fear, futile.
There are 2 chips.. a controller chip and a NAND chip. The controller chip is the Alcor, and named as I said. The NAND flash is the SDTNxxxx chip. I am guessing the NAND will look like this:
you must know the exact number of the controller and the chip, the chips geometry etc to be able to pick the correct MP Tools (Mass Production Tools)
So it looks like it is a 4GB drive. A much better drive than that one retails here for AU$5.97 is there a reason you are trying to fix the drive to a possibly working, but never trustworthy state?

HaQue wrote:Maybe I have been too verbose and you have missed the questions in the tens of lines Ive posted. I will ask again in a different way:
1. What is the numbers on the controller?
2. What capacity is it? I guessed 4GB, is this right?
3. can you post pictures of both sides of flash PCB
4. Why do you want to spend time on trying to format it when it is quite probably faulty?
5. How did you come to the conclusion that no physical issues exist, when the time you said id, you had not opened the drive. Did you test the resistors/capacitors, look under microscope for damage?
6. is the drive
I've already stated that to fix flash drives if the firmware is fault, you need the Mass Production tools. There are two (2) chips.. a NAND chip and a controller chip. So far we have worked out the NAND is a Sandisk, though still don't know if refurbished, maybe not. But what is controller chip? You cant get the right tools without knowing that.
This is a Transcend JetFlash right? did you know they have a lifetime warranty? just get it replaced!

HaQue wrote:Thanks, now we are (slowly) getting somewhere. Any reason you didn't post the actual numbers on the controller, as we cant really read it from the picture? or didn't answer anything past number 3.
I just cant see any point continuing. The drive is dead, replace it or warranty it.
You have already tried the manufacturers website, right??

I know but as I said, some information exist on Pendrive

Right. Well If that's the case, and in my first post I said it didn't look like you needed data.. and you didn't correct me, and I see nowhere else that looks like you needed data. The operations you were trying were sure to destroy data. If I had known, I never would have suggested the MP tools.
I asked many times why you were trying to fix a measly 4gb drive and no answer was given.
As time doesn't seem an issue (it has taken 2 weeks to find out you needed data) why not just post to me, I will remove the chip and attempt recovery the usual way. The way you are going about it is almost certainly going to destroy data, the only saving grace is that the drive is not working.
